About this event

By the end of 2023, La Lengua Teatro put out a second open call for submissions for its playwriting residency Historias de Descolonización/Decolonization Stories, this time focused on Puerto Rico. With the selected applicants, the 2024 cohort was formed. They were entrusted with the commission of short plays in various languages (Spanish, English, and Spanglish) about the impact that the US’s colonization has on Puerto Rico and the Boricua diaspora.

These pieces will be presented in public for the first time as stage readings in a one-day festival at the Brava Theater's Cabaret (San Francisco) on Saturday, October 26.

We'll also have guest artists performing and the panel 'Compleja Puertorriqueñidad: language, belonging and longing' hosted by journalist Chelis Lopez about the decolonization and deconstruction of Puerto Rican identity in the arts and language, in the archipelago, and in the diaspora.

A whole afternoon* of theater, community, and conversation. Come…
